According to reporting from the Charlotte Observer, this newly introduced state allocation pushes the total combined reward money available to $55,000, compounding upon an active federal bounty previously posted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Gunfire Erupts at Holiday Block Party
The unresolved case dates back over six years to the early morning hours of June 22, 2020. An estimated crowd of 400 bystanders had gathered for an outdoor Juneteenth block party celebration along the 1800 block of Beatties Ford Road, near Catherine Simmons Avenue, when multiple gunmen suddenly opened fire. Municipal investigators determined that attackers unleashed a hail of more than 150 rounds directly into the dense gathering of people. The Charlotte Observer reported that despite the immense size of the crowd and the sheer volume of gunfire exchanged, local detectives have been unable to secure formal witness statements or arrest any viable suspects since the night of the tragedy.
Victims Identified as Families Wait for Answers
The historic violence resulted in the deaths of four regional residents and inflicted injuries upon 10 additional festival attendees. Authorities identified the deceased victims as 39-year-old Jamaa Cassell, 28-year-old Christopher “CJ” Gleaton, and 31-year-old Dairyon Stevenson, who all sustained fatal gunshot wounds during the initial barrage.
